Are you keeping heat on them?

The babies will be fine. I have squeekers on the floor and many in the nest. We start hatching right after Jan. 1st. Just make sure you are feeding well and they will be OK.

The squabs will eat whatever you are feeding the older birds.Grain is good with grit or you can feed a poultry pellet of some kind.

Like the others, we've weened probably nine or so, with about three close to being ready to send to one loft races, and all others at different points of development. They are eating a mixed grain, that one of the racers puts together, and I also feed them some pellets to supplement them.

I have had Rock Doves, " barn pigeons" hatch and raise in the winter months here in coastal Alaska where our temps dip to well below zero F. Never used any heat source yet and the boxes are inder the roof in an open pen. Just getting started with Homers. Not seen the Homers clutch yet in the winter but they are pairing up now. Don

I am losing some in less.than 3 wks i would say from hatching.. I just started medicating them with enroflaxin so hopefully that will help.. It says to treat.for.5_7 days.. But when do you treat again? Do you think i shoild try some thing for canker? I had no trouble all last year and now this winter it seems the young wont keep.

I lost one of my first clutch when it fell out of the crappy nestbox I had for them, but it is amazing the cold they can get through.

The big problem was keeping the water wet, but once I beat that one, winter has been smooth.

I feed layer crumble, because it flows through my bulk feeder better. once I get light before and after work i'll switch to twice a day feeding instead of on demand.
