I first saw Bo as a pup, and was around his grandsire often. He is a great dog.

The three backs could be cause for concern, sounds like he may have been behind the other dog some. The judges will know.

There is another way a dog can get that many backs.
Neil, given Bo had SEVEN finds...it's conceivable that he may be behind once and a while.

10-4 on the alternate way of getting a back.

Agreed...do you think it puts a spur in Bernie's saddle when he is reporting at the National and up rides Ferrel? Would love to be inside his head when that happens. ;)
Until Miller is willing to do what it takes to straighten out white powders production record, any HOF induction is a moot point - no matter how good the proven portion is.

At $22 a pop, I imagine Bernie smiles and listens to his pocket jingle when he sees Ferrel.

Apparently shafow oak bo was ahead of the pointer when it counted and had a very very good run. Definetly in the lead at this point it seems.
In The Shafow will lay down a serious run i bet.

The setter jacjpot is now at $16,500, but as already said the stud fees should be even more.

If I had a setter I would breed to Bo even if he does not win.

Ahhh, if I was a betting man...yep.

There is word that some of those "backs" may have been divided finds and not reported/scribed correctly. The judges have to figure it out, but it was noted that Robin fired more than 7 times ;)

Really unfair to insinuate something like that IMO unless that's an opinion formed by witnessing with one's own eyes - especially with such a fine dog and handler at that level. Certainly would be understandable, and probably accurate, if it was me and one of my dogs as bracemate!!  Like alot of things we all write on occasion, the message might be perceived differently than intended.

Interesting, most took offence that I insinuated the setter was following the pointer. As I said, the judges will know and sort it out, lot of good dogs to run, so it may be a non issue. And that is assuming Bo bumped Dailing In.

I was just expressing an observation bassed on 50 years of hunting.

I understand it happens and certainly respect your experience but to insinuate a dog stealing point, insinuating anything really when we weren't even there, I think is a bit unfair and certainly not founded on any factual basis...no??

Thanks for the updates all! :D

Rich is a fine trainer, and a true sportsman, with great dogs, and does not give a flip what I might think. Surprised you do, Doug.

This is the internet.

  Sure I do!!

Danged internet!! Cripes I know I've blurted out opinions/statements/judgements before about trials I wasn't even at...embarrassed about it now and realize the ridiculousness and unfairness to the folks that were out there actually doin' it!

You do realize that until you made an issue of it and spelled it out, there weren't 12 people knew what you think I meant? And most didn't care.

But I will make a deal, you don't comment on trials you don't attend and I won't either.

But if it applies to everyone, there won't be much traffic.

As we near the end, it appears the weather was a non-issue, this is rare. It was warm a day or two, a bit wndy at times, also some light rain, and as almost always lots of mud. Tomorrow may have a rain delay. But I do not believe any dog was at great disadvantage.

I bet Mr. Miller could give a rats behind , he's still in the game as much as he wants and his dogs and their progeny do more than they're share of winning.....

I'd say that puts a smile on his face ......

on another note as good as Bo's run may have been did you see his pictures on point???

Ya know, getting three backs isn't so bad. That would mean maybe Bo got them coming back to the front after a find on a bird the bracemate missed. You can only judge what you see.

This year's National is a great one to follow. You have a young dog set a high bar on the first day. A setter leaves a BIG mark on the trial and 7 other TOP NOTCH dogs are knocking them around. I would love to hear the conversation between the three judges, at the end, on how they have sorted this all out! If you were one of the dogs to make it the three hours and do not get to the steps for the photos, you at least know you finished strong!

BEFORE today...if my math is correct ;)

Dog completing 3 hours: Finds/Backs/UPs/STFlush

Miller's Dialing In: 7/0/1/0
Houses Ring of Fire:3/0/1/0
Houses River Fever: 5/0/1/0
Shadow Oak Bo: 7/3/0/0
Riverton's Funseek'n Scooter: 5/0/1/0
Conners EZ Button: 5/0/1/0
Touch's Night Rider:6/1/1/0
Erin's Whiskey River: 4/0/0/0
House's Yellow Jacket: 4/0/1/1

Nothing on run and a lot to pick from! Still holding out for Miller's Dialing In!

I have it down to 3 dogs in contention, River Fever, Scooter and Knight Rider, might not be any one of those dogs but that is my opinion and I didn't even have to malign any other dogs to express it.

That is going to be one nasty mess to run one dog from what I've seen on the weather. But, you pay your money, you get your chance.
