Moving a pigeon coop
Moving a pigeon coop
After all my birds got stolen last year I am thinking about moving my coop about 200 yds further to the back of the property. I have 2 birds that are free flying right now. Will the move to the back cause any issues with these two birds?

I don't think you would have a problem with that distance but to be sure I might put the two out on your landing board in a cage for a couple of days. Someplace where they can see the area from. I have learned it is not wise to guess what they will do even though you may be right most of the time.

I think you should be fine. I would just leave them in the new spot for a few days and like ezzy said, put them out on the landing board in a cage before you let them fly again. Last July I moved 9 miles and just let my homers settle for a month or so. I started them off just like new birds and I think I only lost 2 out of the 16 I had due to the move. These were birds that had been flown some distance prior to moving.

Stolen by a person or by a predator? I always though I was silly for padlocking my loft but do it anyways

I would leave it where it is and install a trail camera so I would know who's doing the stealing.

During the war they moved their lofts as the troops moved forward. Worked well for them as long as they didn't go too far.

You may consider moving it a little at a time. I mean, why not just move it ten yards per day for about three weeks.

It's too big and that would take too much time. The loft is 4x8x4 with a 14x14x6 flight pen off the back.Stoneface wrote:You may consider moving it a little at a time. I mean, why not just move it ten yards per day for about three weeks.

Just move it as long as it looks the same and the birds can see it I pretty sure you will be OK.brad27 wrote:It's too big and that would take too much time.
