Post by Allin13 » Fri Mar 08, 2013 10:23 am

What kind of deals are you getting on good quality alfalfa hay, 50LBS? I pay 5.75 for 50lbs and $20 for 900lbs but only can get them in the summer and i have nowhere to store them.

110-120 pound bail was $18.75 two days ago.

Central Coast of California. We have had half the normal rain fall and the pastures are in sad shape.

We pay $4.50 a bale (around 50 lbs) of a grass mix hay. We feed 1/2 bale per horse, and they both came through the winter looking good.

For that $4.50/bale, it's delivered and stacked in our hay shed (we have 50-60 bales delivered at a time).

With North Texas experiencing a 3 year drought along with the hottest summer on record in 2011 as will as the hottest average temperature in 2012 hay in this area is outrageous in price.

Average quality 2 string coastal hay 45-50lb bales anywhere from 9.50 to 13.50 per bale.
Round bales of costal good quality $120 and they are not as big as they use too be.
High quality California Costal 3 string $23.50 if you can find it.

The North Texas area is still under extreme drought conditions with below average winter rains and not looking good going into Spring, the rain forecast is not good.

My pasture are all but gone and we are having to hay horses year round.

So no relief in sight for lower hay prices here.

Tuesday of this week we had a record high of 89 degree!

I paid $4.00 for 60 lb broam grass square bale for when I travel to Field trials. I paid $70 for 1500 lb round bale of broam grass. I was lucky because I contracted for this hay in advance and have again set up for this year. I hope this drought get's over soon because next year might be a different story.

I seen 200 per round bale last summer. Guy I usually get it from sold every bale to another guy. This year I am locking in 8 large rounds so I have enough to feed out the steers.

Why do I still live here...?
I mean, they will ship good wine out of Napa to anywhere...and the better bourbons are in the south...there has to be some reason... but it sure eludes me at the moment

we sell mixed hay from our farm for 2.50$ per bale. Bales are teh typical 50ish pound square bales, we feed it to our cows and horses during the winter when it too cold to be in the pasture... Guess we could ask more, that price is delivered to our customers....
