Can/should prisoner breeding Homers be taught to recall?
I am in the process of buying 10 pair of breeding racing homers that have always been prisoners. Can I teach these to recall? Should I? Am I better off keeping them as prisoner breeding stock and training with their offspring?

I can take a guess at what you mean, but help us all with a definition. Thanks.

Widowhood is like it sounds. You would only allow one member of each pair to fly, and the birds will be most motivated to return when there is young in the nest. V- John tell you specifically what age the young are that is most motivating to the family member to return. For some reason day 10 rings a bell.

We have resettled wild caught birds before. So, it could be possible, but there could likely be some losses involved.

In wouldn't worry about flying them. 10 pair....your gonna have a full loft before long and need to unload some. I get three nest's, 6 eggs from each pair.

Since the birds have always been prisioners it is more than likely you could re-settle them and turn them loose later when sitting on eggs or feeding babies. If they have never flown you can have problems with them being able to fly well or I should say manuvuer well enough to land without hurting themselves. Personally, I would keep them shut in till they are on their second hatch and then open the trap and let them do their thing. If you loose some of them you will have young birds there to take their place. But there is no need to fly them so you can do whatever is best for you.
