Hi All,
Just curious as to what we all carry to the field with us. what we would perfer to have and any flames about what i have.

I carry a Browning Gold Hunter in 12GA. I can't complain it was a gift from my Dad.
In the past i have carried a Remington 870 in 16 GA. Sweet gun but costly to shoot.
and currently i am trying to talk my wife into buying me a Browning Cynergy. :P

I have a weatherby that was passed down from grandfather > dad > and to me. Its a 12ga semi auto.

All the guys at http://www.cherokeehunting.com make fun of me because I hunt quail out there with the 12ga. They say I'm shooting a canon! =)

If you go out there to cherokee plantation, you had better watch for old mike an terry...They're all ways pulling some kind of joke! Great guys.....

All mine are cheap. Mossburg 12 23/4 or 3 choke tube 28" pump/w/composite stock.
Winchester 20 pump.choke tube composite.
Stoeger o/u 12 gauge choke tube 21/2 or 3. Won at a Hunt Test raffle.
Don't own and never had an expensive gun. Might have to use it for an oar someday in the duck boat.
Also carry emt gel, gauze, bandage, antibiodic creme, bactine, rag and antibac soap. Dammed barbed wire can be hard on a birdy dog.

These images are pretty easy to put on here.

I have used a lot of diff guns and now have a semi Benelli Legacy 12 GA. I have to say it really is performance worth the price. Smmmoooooth as butta! Do I have a great hubby or what? Of course we got him a Nelli too. We also have on our wall an Ithaca (my 13 yr old daughters) among 10 or so guns. It's an investment, right? lol

I carry a Mossberg 20ga. pump. It is my first and only shotgun, bought for me by my grandpa after I finshed my hunter's education course and got my FOID card quite a few years ago.

Sometimes I get to hunt with my dad's Ithaca 12 ga. Deerslayer, but I actually prefer the 20 ga. I'd like to get a nice semi-auto 20 ga. (Brownings are nice!) sometime, but it's not in the immediate budget. Besides, the pump makes me take a second inbetween shots and forces me to take that second to make a better shot. I've got a lot of quail and dove with it.

Unfortunately I come from a nun-hunting family so no guns to inherit. I am also new to hunting so I did not want to go overboard on my first gun so I bought a Stoeger 20 gauge and hope to get some thing nicer down the road.

What I did and am doing still: Check out a lot of models from the manufacturers you know (online works great for this), and then get some "expert" opinions from the ShotgunWorld.com forums. Then, check prices at a few online dealers and compare to your local gun shop / wal-mart / mega firearms store.

Then, if you don't mind used, check out these sites:
http://www.gunbroker.com
http://www.gunsamerica.com
http://www.auctionarms.com

Good luck on the new gun hunt! Mine is coming along now. The hardest thing to do is decide on "that one gun" that takes the cake.

Did some clay shooting this weekend with my new Stoeger 12 gauge semi auto, great gun for those on a budget. I bought mine used but in new condition. Fired 8 boxes of shells...nice and smooth, it shoots 2 3/4 and 3" shells but it doesn't like the really light 2 3/4 rounds gotta be 1 1/4 oz or bigger.

Browning BPS with 21" bbl - my "one size fits all" gun. Won't take the 3 1/2 shells but then neither can I  The closet also holds 12 others that get out to play every once in a while. 20 ga 1100 for the missus till I can find the right 12 ga bantam for her. My first two Toppers in 410 and 12, the trust 10/22, a 45-70 trapdoor, a sporterized 8mm Mauser (4 more 7mms in the process), a 1911 .45, Ruger 357, and a 45 H&A underhammer carbine smokepole, two more BP pistols, one flint and one percussion. Working to rebuild an old spanish sxs in 20, a 24V just because, and a 20 ga 101 O/U (fire guns).

they are great field guns. but with amount of cash they are asking your not to far off from a Browning. they both carry well, but the Browning will hold its value alot better. Gaylans is a bit higher and fixed in their pricing. i suggest you find the make and model you want and then shop around. imho

I use a 20 guage 870 that my grandpa gave me and I also have a 410 made by a branch of remington called Spartan. My dad has an old clunker 20 guage no clue what it is, His main upland gun is an over under made by reminton and was put out of product about 10 years ago its a 12 guage and he bought It for 700 from his father in law that had just got a set of over under peratzis. We saw one at cabelas used for 1600. He uses a sinthetic 870 12 guage for ducks and geese, that gun is HUGE it holds 2 1/2 in. 3 and 3 1/2in shells. when he was goose hunting he shot a goose at 70 yds with number 3s with a 3 1/2 in. magnum.

Bean,

If I remember right that Remington of your dad's is a 3200. There have been some nice doubles made by American companies. Unfortunately an American name on doubles anymore is ho-hum. I tend to think that if Mossberg came out with a double again, yes they used to have one, and it was made by Purdy but said Mossberg on it, you couldn't sell it here. Same goes for Japanese guns. doesn't matter how good they are, only that they are made in japan. I think the thing that took Browning down years ago was the move from making guns in Belgium to Japan. In both places they were made to Browning specs.

By the way, the Mossberg double was an O/U and was called Pederson. I used one once and it was a nice gun. Their custom shop also made the Pederson Rifles, very nice rifles on the old Mossberg 800 action. You probably don't know it but at one time Marlin also made O/U's.

No. But I got to fool with a Marbles Game Getter a number of years ago. Guy that owned it was from Canada and on his way back. Had it hidden in the truck. don't know if he made it or not.

Don, I think I have heard of those. If I remember it's something like the little military folding stock 22LR/410 bore survival gun?

My dad gave me a used 20 gauge Skeeter as my first gun. After a while I thought I had to have a 12 gauge to be a grownup so I got a new stevens 311. I still have them both.

It was a 22/410 handgun.

That Steven's 311 was a sound gun. I had one in 12 ga years ago and sold it. That was a dumb thing to do! But at that time I was shotgun poor and had a couple nice doubles. Today my son has borrowed (?) most of my shotguns but I have held onto two two with a death grip. Both 16's, an AyA matador and a Ithica Mod 37.

My son doesn't hunt but is a pistol nut. I already gave him one of my custom 1911's. I hide the others.

Yes, most of my shooters are Japanese. I think their quality is the best value in todays gun market but I doubt that will be the case much longer. I hear that Weatherby is ending their association with SKB. Most of the popular manufacturers seem to be doing what ever it takes to produce a sxs or o/u for $1,000.

I swear I replied to this post before...

I've got a lot of shotguns, but these are the ones I use for upland gunning:

Remington Sportsman 48 Auto - 16 ga
Tikka 512S O/U - 12 Ga
Savage/Fox Model B SxS - 20 ga

And I just got it a couple of weeks ago - a Browning Citori 525 Field 16 gauge. :D

The Benelli Montefeltro 12ga shoots 'em dead for me. I'm looking for a used 20 ga o/u, but waiting until I find the perfect fit.

I have a 300 Weatherby Magnum and I bought the wife a Remington model seven in a 300 Short Action Ultra Mag with a muzzle break. Sweet little gun especially with the Leupold 4.5X14 scope. Only problem is that it makes a mess out of a quail!?!?!?!?!

Is your SKB a model 600? Those are real solid little guns. I have one in 410 bore. It's a skeet gun with 2 1/2" chambers. I use it for starting young dogs on birds.

Just for hunting:
Favorite is a Magnus Light 28 ga Cesar Guarini, quail. O/U
I use a little Fausti in .410 O/U
or a smooth Beretta SP in 20 ga for dove. O/U

I am surprised how many guys (and gals) use 12 ga for dove. Com'on people, they don't taste that good!

I use a 12 ga American Arms for Pheasant. This is a remarkably solid double for the money. The purchase of which was the culmination of a 25 year dream of owning an O/U. Cheapest one I own is the most cherished...figures. :P

As a note, above was mentioned the Mossberg O/U. I believe I saw them at "Big 5" just this last winter in Santa Fe. Very nice and very reasonably priced. Not fancy, but very workmanlike features, including screw-ins. I was intending on buying an O/U for each of my sons but the sales guys, (two of 'em no less) got a little assey with me as I shopped. Guess I wasn't high class enough for them...If they were on commission they're idiots. Well, they were idiots, no matter
