Looking for a trainer in Northern Virginia
Looking for a trainer in Northern Virginia
Can anyone recommend a trainer in Virginia preferably within 2 hours of Leesburg Virginia.
Re: Looking for a trainer in Northern Virginia
What kind of dog and what are you looking to have done at a trainer?
Several in the area. I have been using Dawn at Kennel of Mill Creek Farm down in Kent's Store, here's their site, http://kennel.homestead.com/TRAINING.html
Also considered Shady Grove and may use them in the future, they a little closer to you than Mill Creek. Can google other preserves in the area and many of them train as well. Also some across into MD that are within range. PM me if you have any other questions, I grew up in Leesburg and now live in Fairfax.

You have three of the very best in the country(IMO) at training bird dogs within your driving distance.
You should consider Jim Emerson at Clear Spring Kennel in Clear Spring, MD. Jim is about an hour and 20 from you. Jim is a very knowledgeable and experienced bird dog trainer and bringing a dog to the highest level is routine for him. He is also very good about training owners.
If you are willing to travel a bit more, about an hour and 40, you should also consider Jeannette Tracy of Ladywood Kennels in Glenville, PA. She is an exceptional trainer and is very good with her owners as well.
Another extremely good trainer who focuses more (I think) on the continental breeds is Bruce Shaffer of Almost Heaven Kennels in Springfield. WV. Bruce is also about an hour and 40 from you.
I have seen dogs from each of these trainers and have watched them. I have been to the facilities of the first two and they are excellent. I have no doubt that the third is as well, but I have not seen it with my own eyes.
I personally would not hesitate to entrust my own dogs with any of these folks. I have, actually.

I would be sending my 5 month old Brittany. He's been started on birds, house broken and basic obedience. I would want the trainer to do more bird work and e collar conditioning.

Also I'm just graduating from college in May so a place that's easier on the wallet would be nice

I can vouch for Bruce at Almost Heaven GSP's. He doesn't only train GSP's. I know he has a Britt at his place now and had setters and a puddlepointer recently as well. Here is his website, give him a call and talk to him. http://www.almostheavengsps.com/Contact ... ntact%20Us If you have any questions shoot me a PM.
