Dog Box Question

Just trying to figure out the rule of thumb for using the ventilation on these things.

My box has the door ventialation as well as in the back and sides. I know these are dumb questions, but just looking for your general protocals.

I know in the summer you'd leave them all wide open. How about spring and fall? Can you close all ventilations in the winter without suffocating the dog?

Thanks

Yes, you can close them entirely and the dog will get enough air. I rarely do though...

Here is the advice that I was given many years ago. "it is virtually impossible to freeze a dog to death in a dog box, but it is very easy to suffocate one".

This enough air? Note the back and right side are "exposed" to the rest of the trailer... so we didn't want airflow for when it is cold. When it is warm we either turn on the fantastic fan in the bathroom, or place one in front of the dogs. We rarely trial when its warm though.

I think summer time obviously open them all up but when fall and winter hits there are other variables. Do you have a cap on your truck? Are they indoor or outdoor dogs? What is the climate like? I recently heard a story of a guy who put his pup in a box which was in the bed of his truck with a cap and there was no ventilation long story short the pup died. It was stressed to all of us at the training and it is something we should all remember the dogs need air and water. It was only in the 70's the day the pup died. We should all take extra safety steps with our dogs and the weather.
