Woodcock
Woodcock
Anyone else running into a bunch of Woodcock in MN? I've just been out at the dog park and they have been around for the past two weeks. It has been priceless training thats for sure. I'm thinking that the snow is keeping them around longer than they typically stay around. Maybe its one positive coming from this wintery spring!
Re: Woodcock
Yes! I'm in Stillwater and my 13wk old GSP is getting some great exposure right in my back yard. We jumped four of them over the weekend. Been hearing that distinct call every day too. I don't know enough about them to draw any conclusions but I certainly didn't expect them around here.
Re: Woodcock
Was in Missouri 2 weeks ago and ran into a handful, guess they made their way up north now. Really good birds for dog training.
Re: Woodcock
Snows to deep north of you for the woodcock to move on.. You should have birds that breed locally.
Re: Woodcock
Drove an hour and a half south, this morning to get out of the snow. Ran my little girl for a little less than 2 hours, 13 productive Woodcock points, 2 where the Woodcock either ran off or flew just before we got there. What a beautiful training bird! A little more 50 degree weather and the birds will be here! The first blackberry thorn I got in my hand, I had to chuckle, in Louisiana this Jan the blackberry bushes were sometimes 10 feet tall and all had razorblades on them!!
