Looking for a hunting Griff breeder

Post by webfoot1973 » Wed May 01, 2013 11:23 am

I currently have a Griff that is 5 years old and wanted to start looking at different kennels for the next member of my family.
I have met some great Griff owners, but it seems as though they do breed for the show ring with a side of hunting. My current Griff came from a hunting kennel, but I would like to look elsewhere. I have seen some great dogs that do both show and hunt, but I'm looking more for a dog that has great hunting instincts.

Looking for some help...

The only ones I know are from Alibi kennels. Nice dogs and have done well in our hunt test. Talk to Pat Loomis she might know of some more and she has a litter on the ground now. I'll check around for more though.

I'd call John Arkins at Spruce Creek Kennels in MT. I found him helpful when I wanted to know more about Griffs. Also check out the versatile dogs forum, tons of hunting griff folks over there.

Try Joe Mix in Grand Rapids , Minnesota Joe has some fine Griffs that are hard hunted on ruffed grouse, woodcock, and ducks. 1-218-327-1521

Check out Aux Lake Kennel in Bellevue, KS. Larry is a great guy and will answer any questions you have. Email larrywoodward@msn.com or call him 785 four56 two437. He is active in NAVHDA and hunts his dogs.

I'll also jump in and recommend Larry at Aux Lake Kennel. He's trained multiple NAVHDA VCs and as High Voltage said he's a great guy.

The Heartland NAVHDA chapter held it's test this weekend and there were 7 Griffs tested! 5 out of 10 NA dogs on Saturday and 2 UPT on Sunday. Jay was there from SwitchGrass running one of his pups and a pup of his from Aux Lake. There was a couple with a pup from Jay at SwitchGrass too. All of the Griff NA pups prized. It was great to watch these pups work. They did a very good job under dry conditions and high winds that kept changing directions.

I'm planning on running there with Taz this fall, prepping for the UT test
