Ticks are insane this year!

Post by Nebraska » Tue May 07, 2013 3:06 pm

While I was out yesterday, I was picking 1-2 ticks off my legs every few minutes and before I jumped in my truck I noticed there were actually 8-9 ticks climbing on my boots/socks at the same time! I've never run into ticks as bad as they've been this Spring. WIth this cold/wet start, I wouldn't think we would get such a bumper crop......I bet this would be a real PITA for everyone running a long-haired breed.....

Put some "flowers of sulphur" in the socks and on the legs, it will keep them off.

They are so bad here you can get dragged into the woods by them and sucked dry. :x

They are definitely bad this year. I was out training just west of the Twin Cities metro area and picked at least 10 off the dog and myself during training. Found another 4 on the dog when I got home.

Usually don't get any in Colorado, but had a few when we were out yesterday on us and the dogs.

Diatomaceous Earth helps around the kennels and the house helps on a lot of different things internally and externally..

Note Do Not Get the kind you get at pool stores this is very poisonous...GET FOOD GRADE

Flowers of Sulphur is a powder formerly used by some British Poachers. It was dusted onto a rag contained in a tin can on the end of a long pole and then set alight. The tin can was then lofted up underneath a roosting pheasant at night as it sat up a tree. The dusts fumes knocked out the pheasant which fell off it's perch to be grabbed by the poacher ..... or so I read about 40+ years ago. If it worked it must have been a very quiet way of poaching pheasants. I have also heard of it being dusted onto rags which were stuffed down rabbit holes and then set alight to smoke out the rabbits into a purse net. That seems rather unlikely to me but it is all I know about Flowers of Sulphur.

I have yet to see a single tick this year and I very much hope it stays that way !

The worst is when the make it to the bed. Nothing like waking up in the middle of the night to a tick crawling on your leg. Ick. They are got really bad over the last 2-3 days!

They're really bad around here too!

Been tromping around the woods in search of these...

Image

But, mostly finding ticks!!!
(Actually, found a few mushrooms too!) ;)

I'm done lookin though! The ticks are just unbearable on the warm sunny days. After that last little snow, they kind of went dormant for a few days. Not now though! They're out in full force!
As a matter of fact,...I just pulled one off of my shoulder 20 minutes ago!
Blahhhhhhhhhh!!!!

The worst is, the seed ticks! I've never seen them so bad in my part of Kansas.
Missouri??...Yes, but not here.
My little Jack Russell came with me the other day and the seed ticks were clumped up between her toes!!
