Building a quail recall pen. Should I build one open house for 10 to 12 birds, or one with a divider to split the birds up 5 & 5, or 6 & 6, on each side. This way I can release one side and let the others call them back.
If I build one house for all the birds, is it an issue trying to release some but also keeping others in the house for recalling???
My preference would be to build one sign house but concerned about managing the release of the birds.
Quail Pen
Re: Quail Pen
I built a small portable re-call pen that was...I think...4x8. It was like 16" tall. It had a small house on the end and the other 6 ft was enclosed with wire. It would slide perfectly in the bed of a pick up. It was divided down the middle. I would put a dozen quail in one side. Each day I would exercise a few birds and they would come back in on the empty side and it was very easy to keep up with which birds had been out. If you plan on keeping the birds for very long, I would definately divide the pen. I will try to find you a picture of mine.

I like my johnny houses to have a lot of room. If you keep just ten birds in there at once you should be ready to buy birds often. Mortality rate and birds just not wanting to recall says you'll birds at a consistent rate. If you keep them in too tight a quarters they'll not be crazy about recalling, also.
