Latest Acquisition... I'll think I'll keep him around awhile

Post by Lyco Setter » Mon Jul 08, 2013 10:55 am

This is this guy's third time on any bird, he's been getting just enough to keep him hungry for more while he grows and matures... at 16 weeks old, I'm happy.

He is off to a great start.
Don't see a lot of tri-color Chestnuts, is he a Llew?

I think it is freaking great!BUt why would you want to use a tethered pigeon on a dog like that? Let it fly. Why risk him catching?

Training birds from the year before had been depleted, all I had were young homers that had only been in the loft for a short time. Pup needed some birds, on the contrary I would use poled pigeons on a pup like this as opposed to one that doesn't hold and flash points... I tend to think that's the kind of pup that'll catch one intensifying its desire to flash point. He was check-corded to be safe. Birds are homing and in launchers now and the GunX 209 it's being put through its paces.

To answer the earlier Llew question, none in the last 60 years. I suppose you could say he was in the traditional sense. He's FDSB out of cover dog trial lines, if it was 1940 I could say he is/was as this type were all called Llews before Llews became their own registered micro-breed. His coloration can probably be attributed to his sire's dam, Magic Mist Bandit, a chestnut and there's a few instances of Grouse Ridge Reroy who was know to produce some chestnuts. Ironically those two dogs having nothing to do with why I snagged him up. His litter was the heaviest breeding going back to the setter Ghost Train I could find, lot's of his progeny all through out and that's what I was after. Fast, flashy dogs with a snappy gait that are great in the heat.
