diatomaceous earth food grade, do you use it

Post by mm » Sat Aug 03, 2013 5:30 am

I use diatomaceous earth around my bird coops to control insects and it works good as I have a big decline in flys I also dust under the scott kennel. I use the food grade. If you read about this stuff they claim it will do everything. They say it can be fed as a wormer and it will kill fleas and ticks if dusted on a dog. I dust it on my birds and feed it to them I don't know if it does anything or not to them. They also say people eat it for health reasons and they feed it to horses and it helps them health wise and insects cant breed it the manure.

Does anyone use this food grade diatomaceous earth and if so what for and what are your results.

We have used it in our garden, the dogs yard and on the dogs. So far worked good an everything but the dogs. But since it worked great on the yard, the dogs have been good as a result.

Be careful about breathing it......not good to be breathing the dust.

I use it on my pigeons a lot, recently though I have decided to limit it's use to methods that don't involve exposing my birds or myself to inhaling the dust. Not sure what the long term affects are of inhaling this stuff, could be the next asbestos. It surely cannot be disposed of from your lungs once in there aside from coughing it out.

I tried it on my dogs once for dog lice, it didn't work and probably wasn't worth the inhalant exposure to the dogs.

Nothing is without side-effects!

I love it, I use it on my birds and my chickens and my dogs. It works great to keep flies away and to keep fleas out of my yard.
