Question for the NSTRA folks
I have gone and watched a few trials now and they look fun. I decided last spring that is something I would like to try. The only thing holding me back is the dog I currently have a six yr old pointer who I think would do ok at this format but he is not registered. I have tried unsuccessfully several time to get the paperwork from the breeder and starting a new dog is not in the cards for a couple years. Is there a way to get some sort of limited registration on my dog so we can play the game.
Re: Question for the NSTRA folks
Search NSTRA and ask through the top dogs.

I don't think so - but it never hurts to try - I'd be interested to know if you're successful. I have ILP's on two dogs (purebreds but no papers) through AKC - so I can take them to hunt tests and do those things, but not conformation - and I'm pretty sure NSTRA doesn't accept a PAL or ILP from AKC. From what I understand, NSTRA does not allow non-registered dogs.
Good news though - BHU does! Bird hunters united - they are a great group, but I just don't know if there is anything near you.

Re: Question for the NSTRA folks
From the UKC site
Limited Privilege: Limited Privilege Registration is a method for mix bred dogs, purebred dogs of unknown pedigree or purebred dogs with disqualifying faults to become registered. These dogs must be spayed or neutered and can compete in Performance Events and Junior Showmanship.
Since NSTRA is under the umbrella of UKC, maybe you can get that LP and play?

You must have a registered dog to run in NSTRA. The field trials are not to extend the season and have fun with your bird dog, they're a science experiment.

Re: Question for the NSTRA folks
I am with RoosterMom BHU is a fun trial that anyone can play. They still score dog work over time for those that don't like the time format. I have been thinking about putting one on. I am in West Central Illinois. PM me if you may be interested. We are at the edge of what they normally run but may be able to grow the game this way if we get enough participation.
I think You may be able to play BDC as well. That is the way it used to be but not 100% since new ownership.
You might even find out when they want the reg. papers. You may be able to play just not be able to get into finals trials etc..

Re: Question for the NSTRA folks
from the NSTRA Rule book
8.04
A dog must be eligible to be registered with a recognized
registry to enter any NSTRA trial.
a.
NSTRA recognizes the NSTRA, AKC(no PAL/ILP registered dogs),
FDSB, and CKC(Canadian Kennel Club)
registries. However, regardless of
which registry is used, the dog must be eligible
to be registered in the NSTRA registry as a
recognized pointing dog breed to be entered in any
NSTRA trial.
b .
Owners having dog registration pending will be
responsible for completion of registration within
(30) days of placement.
c.
No placements will be recorded until the
registration number is forwarded to the National
Office(NSTRA, AKC [no PAL/ILP registered
dogs], FDSB, CKC [Canadian Kennel Club]).
After sixty (60) days, if no registration number has
been received and/or verification that one exists,
the placement will be void and all placements will
be adjusted

Re: Question for the NSTRA folks
If you just want to go so you can have fun with your dog, just do it and enter and run, more than likely they will let you run,the local Nstra clubs here have trouble getting full trials,so your money here would be green enough to overlook the paperwork issue.Keep in mind however That if you win,Only those in attendance and yourself will ever know that your dog's performance was top notch,it won't be recorded or acknowledged. You could probably provided your dog doesn't get in another dogs buisness and spoil things.................... hang at the trial and run your dog as a bye dog for free, when a dog in the field is disqualified,in the nstra I was around the DQ thing happend at least a couple times a day for being naughty and rippiing birds in front of another dog.

Call UKC. They are the ones sanctioning pedigree championships for NSTRA.
