rattlesnakes

Post by TEX-X » Tue Oct 29, 2013 6:23 pm

The dog is snake broke. I'm not. Just walked up on one while training. I've killed five this year and luckily all but one has buzzed. At the deer lease they won't buzz anymore or the hogs will eat them. I will be getting snake boots shortly. What I'm getting at is has anyone found anything that will help with the numbers? I kill everyone I see....and I have 5 barn cats. Maybe there is a den somewhere*)?

Better you than me, I hate snakes. Kill 'em all.

You are probably right about the den. When I was stationed in the Army at Fort Hood, we use to come across them all the time. When we did they were usually holed up near rock formations. I would definitely get some snake boots.

The hogs aren't the only reason. Rattlesnakes, particularly the Eastern Diamondbacks, are buzzing alot less often. One theory for this is those that buzz tend to meet an untimely end. Those that don't may not be noticed and get to live another day and maybe pass any "non-buzz" genetics to another generation.

There isn't anything down in south tx that will jack with a rattlesnake other than humans and hogs...the feral hog population explosion is the direct cause of their change in behavior...as per the tpwd biologist in three rivers. I need to find the den pretty quick.
