new baby pigeons and cooler weather

I was cleaning my loft about 6 days ago and noticed 2 nest with 2 eggs in each. Not sure how long they have been there. yesterday 1 hatched and today the other 3 hatched so here are 4 baby pigeons and the weather is supposed to turn cooler. is there any concerns or just let them do what they do? I have birds that hatched in my loft I just don't know with the cooler weather should I be doing anything different.

The parents should take care of them, if they dont then dont worry. I hatch year round and dont have problems. Keep them dry.

3 things you need to do for them:

As Topher said keep them dry

Keep them out of the wind

Keep them fed( parents that is)

they will be OK.

Mine really slow down laying this time of year but they pick back up usually in February. Lot colder than now and they are fine.

Make sure all your birds get plenty of water when its cold. Check daily and replace ice with water. Feral pigeons do ok during the winter in barns, building ledges and overpasses.

You might offer the adults a chick starter type of feed to give the squab a higher energy ration when the weather is cooler. As well, I have had an incident where the weather got really cold and the squab were too large for one parent bird to cover well in the nest. One squab didn't make it. They weren't weaned yet and I guess the feathering wasn't well enough developed to keep the youngster warm enough for our low overnight temps. Likely they will do fine, and the other tips posted are great advice.Good luck with your birds.

Th only time I had trouble was when the chick fell out of the nest, I had that happen a time or two, but I made better nests. I have had chicks survive -20c to -30c. I bulk feed through the winter to make sure they have enough food to stay warm.

Our winters often can get minus 25 or colder and we start breeding in Dec so we can get Jan birds for our young bird team plus we sell some for the special races. I can remember losing two that fell out of the nest. And my loft is always open to the south. Remember the parents feed them and I wouldn't change feed because if the babies.

I would suggest you get rid of the c54racked corn and the crumbles and feed a pellet and use shelled corn if you need it. There is a lot less waste from pellets and less feeding problems from the shelled corn.

Never. They wouldn't eat them. Pigeons are grain eaters and not worm or meat eaters. They will eat extra corn during cold weather.

I always bred pigeons year round. .. even when we had 3ft of snow and it was -20. They'll be fine.
