Kennel Floor

Post by JT's Gundogs » Wed Nov 27, 2013 8:32 am

Building a kennel and I am hoping for some insight on the slope of the slab. I was looking at 1/2" in 8' in the kennels sloping to a drain trough and then either the same or a little steeper in the trough going out to the drain pipe. What have some of you done? Also what have you all found to be the best sealant for the concrete surface to avoid erosion from urine?

I'm not an expert but I would think that you would want more slope than that if you can do it. I do not have a concrete floored kennel now, but I did at my old house. My floor dropped six inches per eight feet.

I did 2" in 12' on the slab and I believe 4" in 20' on the drain.

I would go atleast a 1/8" per foot or even a 1/4" per ft,I sloped mine 1-1/4" over ten feet I can't see it by eye

I just got done pouring a new kennel addition back in early october. Mine is sloped 1.5 inches in 8ft. Wish I would have made 2.5 inches in 8ft. The trough is the same amount of slope.

At least double what you think you may need. I just don't think urine can run off fast enough. It will make for a cleaner kennel.

Also another tip. I slick finished mine and sure do wish I would have done a light broom finish. When it's wet its like ice. A light broom finish won't pick up much more than a slick finish and it will be much nicer for you and the dogs.

1 have 20' kennel runs and 1/2" per foot so a 10" drop over the whole run. I LOVE that much drop. Urine runs off and it sprays down easily. I have a rougher sidewalk finish so their feet stay tough and I have traction for me.
