Frost Bite.... Need help!! Read last comment

Post by Hunt1Fish2 » Sun Dec 15, 2013 3:28 pm

Is there anything you can put on your dog to help prevent frost nip/bite and whatnot. My yellow lab doesn't grow hair on part of his balls and on the inside of his back legs. Will it be okay as is or what do you guys use/do? I wear a vest on him to protect his stomach and I try and dry him off every so often but don't know what to do about the other areas. We will be pheasant hunting up here NoDak this coming weekend and just wanna take the right precautions. Thanks !!!

I was just looking at that stuff actually. Is it good to use on them anywhere then?

From the description, it sounds like it is. I haven't personally used the product.

He will be just fine the way he is.

I would never rub anything on my dogs balls, regardless of how cold they get. He can lick them for a reason.

My lab and GWP/Lab cross haven't had any issues yet up here.
Last weekend the high was -5 and we were out all weekend, generally in snow up to my knees.

WE were hunting last Thursday-Monday. Well chief was done after SatAM. We never hunted in weather warmer than -20 the whole time and his balls got so dried/chapped/etc that they started bleeding. I was told I was going to need to get them snipped because if that keeps happening he has a high risk of getting testicular cancer. Is that true? He is the BEST dog I have ever hunted behind and I am constantly getting compliments about him so after health clearances this Spring he was going to be stud dog and he was goona be the main piece in my breeding program so I don't really want them snipped. What do you guys think. It never seemed to bother him while we were hunting but once they started bleeding I made him be done for the trip. Whats your opinions!?!?!! Thanks, Devin.
