Post-spay shedding

Post by jbl02a » Sun Jan 12, 2014 7:43 pm

My 6 month old GDP was spayed last week. A few days into recovery I noticed she has been shedding substantially more than any ever point since I have had her. I mean incredible amounts of fur. It seems excessive and is a little concerning. I am not sure if it is a side effect of shock/stress of the surgery, a change in hormones resulting from surgery, or something else. Anyone else experience this? Did it improve with time or permanent result of the spaying? Should I be concerned?

It will likely improve but it is one of the things that happen sometimes with early spay. Your dog is just a teenager in our years and the sudden lost of those hormones can cause several problems. That is why most breeders and experienced owners are strongly recommending nuetering either sex when they have matured if there is a good reason for doing it at all.
