Finally open water
Finally open water
After many weeks of frozen up solid, a few areas started to thaw. Went waterfowling on Sunday morn to find once again our 25 acre lake frozen solid, except for where 200 or so geese were sitting. Supposed to be 60+ degrees with a strong south wind, should open up fast, and that it did. Taz had a great time finally having some water to swim in, after basically a month and half off from retrieving he did a great job. Had ducks, geese, breaking ice, and a quail on walk to get the truck. Didn't last long, was back to 5 degrees this morning, oh well back to the fields and pheasant hunting.

Re: Finally open water
Looks like a blast. I would love a 60 degree day. It is -20F today and it will be a while before I see any open water.

Canvasbacks in Kansas? Cool.

I have many pics of him licking his face after water retrieves, he has a knack for turning his head at just the right time.

Was back to 2 deg last night, will have to break ice this weekend for the last 2 daqys of duck, negative temps for next week. Winter needs to leave, it's getting old.FirearmFan wrote:Looks like a blast. I would love a 60 degree day. It is -20F today and it will be a while before I see any open water.
Don't see a ton of them, but normally shoot 2 or so a year, this is by far the most fully plumes I've seen. Looking to have adead mount with another can and a greenhead.donne wrote:Canvasbacks in Kansas? Cool.

You are a blessed man---A beautiful wirehair like that and two of duck hunters, dream ducks. We don't see hardly any here, N Wis, but about 15 years ago I hunted Pool 9 on the Mississippi, below LaCrosse where up to 300,000 stage up every year. That is an awesome sight to see.
Re: Finally open water
I went many years without shooting any. Last year was the first fully plumed one I've taken, this was #2. Have plans for a dead mount with 2 cans and a really nice giant greenhead.Rod W wrote:You are a blessed man---A beautiful wirehair like that and two of duck hunters, dream ducks. It will be good to see you and watch him work. Come up for a training day if you can.
Re: Finally open water
That is my plan, I need all the help I can get. With only running the NA test, interested to see how everything goes down.High Voltage wrote:It will be good to see you and watch him work. Come up for a training day if you can.
