Kennel boarding question
Kennel boarding question
This may be a stupid question but here it goes. So i have a 9 month old male GSP he is very quiet in his crate and around the house hardly ever barks. We are planning a vacation in June for a week and planned on boarding him at the Kennel at my Hunting preserve. But now im worried because the Dogs in the kennel there bark and howl all day long you can hear them no matter where you are on the property. What are the chances he starts being more vocal after being around the other dogs ?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Kennel boarding question
Find a different kennel, preferably one that actually trains dogs, or one that gives the dogs plenty of exercise. A sleeping dog does not bark.
Re: Kennel boarding question
Why can't he go on vacation with you?
Re: Kennel boarding question
That's a big facility with a lot of dogs (although I think there may be fewer dogs after the preserve season ends), I prefer something smaller, but that's just me. To answer your question, my GSP isn't a barker or a whiner around the house or crate but when he comes back from boarding (which isn't too often) he's totally hoarse. Thankfully all of the barking he apparently is doing while boarding isn't translating into barking at home. FWIW.

Re: Kennel boarding question
I ask my brother to watch over my dogs when I go on vacation, they stay home that way in familiar teritory.
Re: Kennel boarding question
As a past kennel owner.. if your dog is boarded where all the dogs bark and are allowed to bark... he will probably come home very very tired and with a sore throat. Will that behavior continue once home... hard to tell.
If this is something that concerns you (and it probably should) I suggest finding some where else to keep him, another facility.
Dogs do indeed learn from their environment.

Re: Kennel boarding question
Are you close to your breeder? We board dogs for our puppy buyers when they go out of town.

"Are you close to your breeder?"
unfortunately no.
Usually my in-laws watch our pets but they both passed away last year so this will be our first vacation without them available.
I do believe we have found another option thanks for the reply's.
