When the time comes to get another pup, I am going to get one of the European type of English pointers
I love the way they look and hunt. I also like the way they hold the tail.

Could be a black German Shorthair, some countries in Europe do not allow the docking of the tail.

I thought about that too. But the head looks too blocky to me.

The structure is massive on that pointer. I'm not a big fan of the head and tail but I can definitely admire the dog. Beautiful specimen Coop. It would be fun to try him Stateside on wild birds.

Man can you imagine the craziness that would ensue if FT folks started bringing in Black EPs..... You think the GSP folks get wound up about the collor of a dogs spots.

Looks like it's part Great Dane! I bet it points a food bowl pretty well, doubt much else. Seems these solid pointers are more popular in Australia ?

Thanks for that you tube link. I don't watch much T.V., so I haven't seen the ad. That's a pretty good commercial ... and a pretty good looking dog. Sure looks like a black EP to me.

This is direct from the akc breed standard "A good Pointer cannot be a bad color."

As far trialing goes, most hardcore folks don't really care about what color a dog is. In AF, white or mostly white is sometimes preferred just because of visibility at a distance, but it's not likely a good dog would be culled because he is loud colored.

On the akc side, sometimes there are dustups over dogs' color ( GSPs, Vs, Weims) and IME it has to do with other people being concerned about the dog's pedigree especially if it's beating theirs

This always makes me chuckle... Yeah pointer guys don't care about color as long as the head is evenly marked and there isn't much ticking or large body patches.....

My EP's sire is Sugarknoll Buckshot. I like the ticking. Why do you think he was called Buckshot? :D

I don't mind the large body patches. Here's my daughter of CH Erin's Tin Soldier.
