Pigeon care or "Lack of"
Pigeon care or "Lack of"
Can you have a loft set up where you could have enough food and water that you would only need to check on them say once a week? (reason: I am building a house and would like to get my loft going and use the birds for training while I am building. I will be out there once or twice a week.)
Re: Pigeon care or "Lack of"
Sure, just make sure you have enough food and water for the birds you have.

Yes, I am watering my pigeons every day now, because the water freezes. In good weather I can go about a week without feeding or watering.

Yes. I feed mine twice a week and if the weather is favorable, refill water one. With our recent cold weather, I've been watering every couple days.

Run an extension cord and put a light under the water, it works all winter long

My pigeons are on their own from the time the water freezes, until it thaws. If I'm feeling generous I'll throw them some whole corn. But, my birds free fly all the time.

Ok. Sounds great! Now I need to decide on how to build the loft.
Re: Pigeon care or "Lack of"
if you only check on them once a week or so ( thats what I do) feed them some sort of pellet food or corn, otherwise they will pick out all the best bits and throw the rest on the loft floor where it will get covered in crap or get moldy. when they run out of the choice stuff the will pick the rest off the floor and potentially get sick.
