See Johnny Run - English setter

Post by Gertie » Sat Feb 08, 2014 12:58 pm

I've been doing some studying on English setter pedigrees and am curious about a dog called 'See Johnny Run' that keeps popping up. I'm wondering if any of you know anything about this dog or saw him run? Also, do any of you have direct progeny of this dog and, if so, what do you think? Thanks!

I'm certainly no expert on English Setters, but I think he was a direct son of Tekoa Mountain Sunrise. I never saw him, but I did see a few of his direct offspring, and I liked them. They were long legged, with the right kind of gait.

I don't know if this link will work or not, but it is a lengthy thread about setters, and I think it may reference See Johnny Run. It certainly talks about Tekoa Mountain Sunrise.

Howie said there were several dogs up here sired by See Johnny Run. Maybe late 80's early 90's and did well in the grouse woods as hunting dogs..

Jerry Lewis had the dog for years on his string,Terry or Jerry Erickson in California owned the dog,There is still some frozen semen on him.Closest thing I had to him was a grandaughter out of Tioga Golden Girl,Key word is had,not much of a birddog but she had more than enough wheels and tons of stamina.I quizzed a few about him who had seen him run.General consensus was Johnny could run and it was followed by,You can have all of that you want, because birdfinding wise he sucked. That was the reports I got anyhow from folks who had seen him run frequently. The Tekoa Maytown Rambler dog in the previous posters list whelped 2x setter of the year in AKC,his name was FC Jaydogs Wonder Boy,and he could run like the wind too,but he was also a birdfinding fool,he had 53 field trial placements and enough accrued points that if possible would have made him a 5X field champion.

Take a look at this link. I have a pup out of scooby. I've seen him run several times. Nice dog. Hopefully I can get another one out of him.

I saw him run in trials. The main thing I remember about him was that he was tough.
