Size of your Wienerimer

Post by Wing Chaser » Sun Feb 23, 2014 11:06 am

Our female was 70 pounds and 26" at the shoulder. She was not over weight, she was tall and long. I know this is unusual for a female but I have not seen any others that matched the norm of 50 to 60 pounds and 25" max at the shoulder. Can you tell me the size of your females please. I would like to see how yours compare to the listed "norm".

Definitely a bad spot for a typo.

Doesn't appear to be a typo but just didn't know how to spell it and I can sympathize with that. Either way don't believe we need to exploit a fellow member unless you haven't made a mistake.

Actually your numbers are close enough to the standard to be perfectly acceptable. I've never had a weimaraner , and not seen much about them on here. You might get better answers at :http://pointingdogblog.blogspot.ca/2011 ... -1_14.html

I've never had a female Weim but currently have my 2nd male. It seems that your dog's dimensions are within an acceptable variance from the breed "standards" without worrying about it too much. IMHO

26" at the withers is the top of the AKC Conformation Standard for a female Weimaraner.

This Weimaraner was exactly 26" at the withers & 70 lbs. She wasn't heavy at all- just a long,
tall, athletic bitch.

The standard for females is 23"-25" at the withers, with an inch over or under being accepted but penalized. We have 2 girls at home - one weighs about 48 lbs, and is a bit over 23", the other is about 54 lbs, and around 24".

I've personally seen female weims in the range of 35 lbs to 75 lbs, however 50-65 lbs tends to be the typical or average weight. You'll sometimes see trends based on how they were bred - field bred tends to be smaller, show bred tends to be larger.
