Chewed and ate a little of a fishing rod

Has this ever happened to anyone? Should I be concerned and take him to a vet?

I would think it will probably have glass splinter's inside. I'd call the vet. I would call the vet ASAP.

What part and how much?

Two weeks ago a 13 year-old setter of mine had an operation.
Apparently he got into a coyote bait set by deer hunters on state Gamelands....dental floss was from the stomach to the rectum.
Took one stomach and 4 intestine incisions to get it all out...there was a load of it.

A week ago a friend's dog had his wife's rubber hair bands and other assorted stuff removed in two incisions.

Bad things can happen in the field or at home.
I would watch the dog's eating and drinking, any pain indications and then act accordingly.
Foreign bodies often pass pretty easily but a perforation of the intestines is not a good thing.
However, an x-ray is cheap insurance and vital with subsequent looks to see if the foreign body is moving.
Depending upon the particulars, I would go with the Vet and an x-ray.
Good luck.

X ray now or wait and see if there is a problem. personally I 'd do an x ray now, but see what your vet says.
Yes, dental floss , old thread, tinsel is a huge hazard.

Perhaps....but, perhaps not in quite the normal method of accidental ingestion of dental floss.

Looks like he chewed and swallowed only a couple small pieces before I caught him and took it away. This is from me looking at the remaining of the rod.
