Beagle advice needed

Post by vizslawild » Sat Mar 08, 2014 9:44 pm

Hello! I'm located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I'm in need of a hare/rabbit specialist dog and have set my heart on a beagle. I've looked at a number of breeders, but would like to know if there are any recommendations from members here. I'm looking for a female pup from proven hunting lines. Thank you beforehand.

There are some good beagle pages with plenty of information on Facebook. Good luck, Scott

Thank you for the replies. The National Beagle Club has an overwhelming numbers of breeders listed on their page. Hence I wanted to see if there are any hunting beagle owners that would be able to recommend the right breeder. I don't need a pup immediately. I'd rather find the right breeder and wait for a litter.
Both of my Vizslas are excellent in the field, they consistently detect the hares underneath dead-fall and thick undergrowth, but they are physically not able to squeeze in between the branched to flush the hares out. Any suggestions are welcome.

There are lots of nice kennels in Canada. Brankos included. I would personally do a search for Cryon Beagles. The Steeves are as nice and honest as they come and their dogs are second to none. They don't sell females(typically) but they can put you in contact with someone who does.

Any of the folks here would be glad to give advice on litters expected this Spring.

JMHO...but if you are getting into hare up there, I'd look for breeders that are running large pack and SPO trials. These are dogs that are run on hare and cottontail and can really run rabbits.
