Diamond S Stephanie in HOF?

Post by GunDogAdventures » Mon Mar 17, 2014 2:12 pm

Can't remember exactly where I saw it mentioned, but I'm thinking that on at least two separate occasions I read mention that Diamond S Stephanie was noted as being a Hall of Fame dog. Is this true? If so, which HOF?

Where would one go to find recent HOF inductees? It seems that the GSPCA page is a little dated.

I did a search on Diamond S Stephanie at the NGSPA website and GSPCA website and at the Bird Dog Hall of Fame and I could not find her listed anywhere. GSPCA does not have the dogs for 2012 and 2013 listed. Maybe someone else could have better luck. .

The GSP folks need to put aside their differences and get behind one Hall of Fame, you would hope in the Bird Dog Museum. To do otherwise harms the legacy of the breed. Please put the dogs first.

It is bad enough there is like 6 different National Champions, with All-Age and Gun Dog, then add Amateur and Open and it gets ridiculous. What other breed has 12 National Champions?

It's been that way since the 50's. Long time for somebody to change it if it's been wrong. I'm not seeing your point.

Simple answer, call Rabidou, Lithgow, or Schaitel. All of them will know if Stevie is in the HOF.

It's ridiculous........... between the AKC & AF Shorthair folks and the plethora of "National" Champions.
The crazy thing is- all the dogs placing in these various Championships are very good dogs.
It would be nice to just be able to name 4:

Open AA Champ
Amateur AA Champ
Open Shooting Dog Champ
Amateur Gun Dog Champ

I split the difference with the Amateur Champions to settle the argument- tough huh?

If they're all good dogs, how is it ridiculous? I still don't get it.

Because they are all capable of running against each other- so split the hairs to name one Nat'l Champion
in each of the four categories (2 Open, 2 Amateur).

Don't you think it's foolish that in ONE year, with GSPs alone, there are upwards of 12 Nat'l Champions?
Kind of waters it down don't you think? And that diminishes the accomplishment(s) of the dog who place imho.

Nothing foolish about it. Doesn't change any of their accomplishments. I can only think of 7 titles. 3 AF, and 4 AKC. What are the others?

I only counted 3gspca. What am I missing? All AKC titles, other than Eureka, are mixed breed events correct? So I don't get it either.

I was incliuding the Continental NC, often called All Breed NC. But since pointers, setters, Brittanys are not allowed how is all breeds? Has anything other than a GSP ever won?

But some of you are right, it is none of my business.

And I did not include the AKC two National Gun Dog Ch. The GSPs pretty much own the retrieving one, because they earn it. Great dogs. But in most years there are up to 14 GSP National Champions!

Brits are allowed at the south eastern continental. Not allowed at ngpda "all breed" German dogs including vizslas.

Pointer and Setters have way more than any other. Maybe more then all other breeds together. 8)
I copied this from another post.

Neil -

For the AFTC(copied from the bylaws):

ARTICLE V
NATIONAL AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP STAKES
Section 1. This corporation shall hold each year,
(a) A National Amateur Quail Championship
(b) A National Amateur Pheasant Championship
(c) A National Amateur Invitational Championship
(d) A National Amateur Chicken Championship
(e) A National Amateur Shooting Dog Championship
(f) A National Amateur Pheasant Shooting Dog Championship
(g) A National Amateur Grouse Championship
(h) A National Amateur Chukar Championship
(i) An International Amateur Woodcock Championship
(j) National Amateur Chukar Shooting Dog Championship
(k) National Amateur Walking Shooting Dog Championship
(1) National Amateur Prairie Chicken Shooting Dog Championship
(m) National Amateur Shooting Dog Invitational Championship
(n) National Amateur Derby Championship
(o) National Amateur Shooting Dog Derby Championship

For the AF(taken from the 8/31/2013 issue - season in review):

All Age
International Pheasant
National Championship
National Chuckar
National Derby
National Free For All
National Pheasant

Shooting Dog
National Chuckar
National Pheasant
National Prarie Chicken
National Shooting Dog

Cover Dog
Grand National Grouse
Grand National Grouse and Woodcock Invitational

We should also include:

US Complete Shooting Dog National Championship
US Complete National Amateur Championship
and
NBHA National Open championship
NBHA Natonal Amateur Championship

Then there is:
National Red Setter Ch
and
Am. Brittany Club National Open Shooting Dog Ch.

to add to the Shorthair breed specific championships.

I am not saying in any way shape or form that any of these trials is the equal or equivalent of any other. Nor am I saying any one is any better or worse, more or less prestigious or anything like that.

What I am saying is that the dog that wins any one of them can rightfully and correctly be called a National or International or Grand National champion and both the handler and the owner have every right to refer to the dog as a National champion.

And while there is a bunch of them, I would strongly suspect that the dogs that have won them, were pretty much at the top of their respective game when they did. Nothing at all wrong with that.

Some folks like Nascar, some like Formula 1, some like Grand Prix, some like fuelie dragsters. Some like Football, some like baseball, some like basketball, some like soccer... some (I personally cannot fathom why) like curling. But hey even I can respect and admire the enthusiasm and obvious skill with which those competitors broom the ice.

The best of each might be different, but it is still the best of that particular bunch and that is something to be celebrated.
