My dogs are pretty much retired except for a couple weeks when my son takes them for SD opening. After years of feeding Purina Pro Plan with great results, the expensise for semi-activr dogs was not justified. I swithched to Purina One with disappointing results.
While at a local small country feed store I found a 24 - 20 dog food with pork as the number 1 ingredient, it has 360 cal/cup. I am amazed at how well my dogs are doing.
It is made by Specialty Feeds and sold as Valu-Pack 24 - 20 and comes in a plain white bag, 50 lbs for $20.00.

Re: NEW DOG FOOD
Very interesting . I'd give it a go as my girls are older now and semi active. Unfortunately it is not sold in Canada.Neil wrote:My dogs are pretty much retired except for a couple weeks when my son takes them for SD opening. I agree. High protein is necessary in old dogs for 'repair' and maintenance of muscle.birddog1968 wrote:I never switch my old dogs, it seems to make them go downhill faster. I find it better to keep their metabolism high as long as possible.
Fat is needed to keep a failing metabolism up to speed.
Just feed less to keep a proper weight on them.

Re: NEW DOG FOOD
