NA Test Prize 1 112 Pts.

Post by RichK » Sun Mar 30, 2014 1:56 pm

Headed down Friday morning at 4am from NY to VA for the Rappahannock NAVHDA's chapter test. The group did an awesome job putting the test on, the people were great and the event was ran extremely efficient with absolutely no down time. This is my first NAVHDA event and my pup was 14 months at the test date. I wanted the option to run him again before he turned 16 months, in case the test didn't go as well as we hoped. They ran the field part of the test first and the the rain was coming down light to moderate a majority of the time. Quail were being planted for the dogs, which was the first time my pup had been exposed to quail. In the 20 minute period we were fortunate enough to turn up 3 quail.

The tracking part of the test went excellent, the bird headed into the woods after about 25 yard through light brush so after my pup had went into the woods to go after the pheasant I didn't know how well the rest of the track would go since I could not see him and a judge had followed him into the woods. After a few minutes the judge told me to call my dog back and I was left wondering how the results were the rest of the day.

The water phase went well, my dog isn't a super strong swimmer (yet) but he went in and did what he was suppose to do and the results were adequate.

I didn't take a lot of photo but here is one of the few that turned out OK.

When the results were read, out of the 8 dogs that tested (all were NA) I believe all but two received a Prize I and two failed to receive any prize.

The judges were great and very helpful and I'm still impressed with how well ran the event was.

Good for you and your dog. Sounds like your dog has abilities for you to work with. :)

This winter has been terrible, it has severely reduced the time I've been able to spend training him outside. He made me look good this weekend.

I'm not far from you here in Ontario. Did get out to day and it was a beautiful day. Anything above 0 and I feel like I'm in Florida. :)

I got a call from a friend at home in NY this morning at 8am to let me know that we got 10" of snow last night. Sure made me want to stay in VA for another week until the snow is gone.

This has been the coldest and snowiest winter I can remember in the past ten years or more.
