Dog Box

Post by RichK » Tue Apr 01, 2014 9:34 pm

I'm going to fab my own boxes for the back of my Jeep and was wondering if there are any features that should be built into the dog box. I don't want to build them and then wish I had done something else.

Easy way to wash them out - a drain - you will find a pile in a box someday.

Dog boxes need to be cleaned out easily. Fix a removable top preferable with latches that can be locked down.

I removed the back seat and built a drawer with 150 pound slides.

The dog box on top.

Or build the dog box with storage.

Shotguns go behind the seats

I have a hard top.

Get HD continuous hinge and 1/4 turn T-hand latch from Austin Supply. www.austinhardware.com The single point cam for the T handle latch can be found on ebay.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Adjustable-STRA ... 1078606555

Ventilation. Especially when inside a, SUV the air needs to circulate well or the boxes get very hot.

Would you recommend putting in vents in front and back of the boxes or installing a fan system into them?

Make them fit any truck/SUV. They will probably out live your Jeep ;)

I am building them so I can fit them in the cargo area and not be forced to put the rear seat down. The Ruff Tuff kennel is about 3" too long, which forces me to have to put the rear seat down. With two dog kennels and the Yeti in the back it takes up about all of the room.
