Shooting at Hullet Conservation Area Region 13

Post by Sharon » Sun Sep 14, 2014 4:19 pm

2 horseback riders shot by a person on the road in a car
................

Just realized the Region 13 (AFTCA) Amateur Shooting Dog Championship was at Hullet this weekend. Very concerned that two of my friends were the ones shot as many would have been on horseback. Any more news?

I hate to fuel rumors, but I heard it was Don Frigo and his wife was wounded.

It was. I'm devastated - no finer man.

Don and CH Silver

Rest in peace dear friend ; thank you for all the help you gave this beginner over the years.

That's horrible. I live fairly close (hour and a half) and I can't believe something like this happened. Please post any updates.
Thank you
Graham

Don was a long time, much respected Shooting Dog Owner/Amateur Handler with many successes, Champions Belfield Silver and Tall Rivers amoung his many winners he had with Mike Hester. He was a true gentleman and most gracious, winning and losing. I reported the US SD Invitational the year Silver won, he was overly complimentary on my writing, more praise for the competitors was his only suggestion for improvement. He laughingly explained the better you make them look the more impressive his win.

We have lost a great man.

Has there been any update on this. Was it some kind of random act?

from the Toronto Star:

“It's a sad day for the field trial community and southern Ontario in general when something horrible like this happens,” said Tim Tufts, a horse and dog breeder from Orono, Ont. who knew Frigo. “(Don was) a charming gentleman that would go out of his way to help anyone and everyone that attended a field trial.”

"Frigo and Willer excelled at the sport, Tufts said.

They’ve had several very notable winners and champions that have been used as stud dogs by various breeders,” said Tufts, who have known the couple for “years.”

"The pair competed together both as a team and as opponents. Willer is one of the few women who handles championship-quality bird dogs in Ontario," said Tufts.

“It was always a huge joke because the ribbon would go back to the same farm, but they were both after it,” said Tufts." quote
