Finally Found a Name

Post by NEhomer » Sun Jan 18, 2015 8:21 am

...for my LLewellin pup that I'm getting this week.

We had been having a hard time trying to find a name my wife, my son and I could all be really pleased with. I read through the favorite name thread here and at other places. Googled dog name lists and for a while mulled over perhaps Scout or Gauge....def a gundog name. So me and wifey were running errands yesterday when out of the blue she says, hey, how about Whip? I loved it immediately.

We pick up Whip on Saturday!

Maybe it's slightly odd as I didn't see it on any lists anywhere but I like that it's sharp, dissimilar from a command word and suggests lightening fast speed~

I like whip. Much better than the overused gun dog names. Now just hope she fits the name.

I really like it. I am a fan of the unusual names (Got a Rocks, Pike, Hammer, Evinrude, etc). I did find humor in the "speed" comment for Llewellins. Don't jump all over me though, the ones I've seen don't have ground speed like the Pointers I see in the field. They sure are gorgeous dogs, can't wait to see pictures of your pup.

Thanks folks...I think it'll stick.

RoostersMom I hope he doesn't have too much speed for me; I'm gettin' old! Lol!

I do have some grouse and woodcock grounds and will be seeking more but this pup will also be put on some stocked pheasants so I don't run big fields.

Got our little Whip yesterday afternoon and he's doing great. Snuggly little guy who loves everyone and he's acclimated to the house overnight...literally.

A couple named a female pup from our GSP's first litter "Webber" after her Grandmother's maiden name. I was not a big fan of the name, but you know what.......it fit her to a T! Your Whip is a good looking pup and when he smokes the other dogs in the field, you can tell 'em they've been Whip'd!!

Don't whip that dog :) just kidding, he looks nice. Put together well, and his coloring is fantastic. My Grandpa raised them kind of dogs, dad was all springer and I found the Shorthairs to be mine.

Thanks guys. Yesterday he got all birdy chasing robins out of the yard. He totally ignores small "bleep" birds but apparently the robins are big enough for him to want to chase. I'm almost set with my pigeon trap so by next week, I should be formally training him with birds!
