Has anyone had success with non-tie breedings (slip ties). Ex. Male mounts for multiple times for anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Over a period of three days, multiple mounts, vigorous thrusting, but no ties.

I don't think that you are going to have puppies.

In my experience, they will tie if he ejaculates, and if inserted he will ejaculate. Basic canine biology. No puppies.

Perhaps there was a misunderstanding from the original post then. The mount and thrusting included insertion.

The tie is what causes the ejaculate to be transferred to the female.

Dogs can definitely produce puppies without a tie. The ejaculation in dogs is in three parts, the first part has a lower sperm count but there is lot of it and it is before the tie. the middle third has the highest sperm count and it occurs during the tie as does the last part but it has little or no sperm. the middle part during the tie is more likely to produce a litter. But it is definitely possible even probable. Unless the male dog is over used there could be a medical reason for no tie. I think the Op said experienced male. If he is not experienced it could be a social

cjhills is absolutely correct. Vern had four ties that were of maybe a minute duration. Result 3 puppies. I might add, that Vern was almost 11 at the time of breeding. From my experience age becomes a factor in the length of the tie. I also know for a fact he is potent as I had a virility test done. Good motility and morphology, sperm count 424 million.
