Re: Spaniel or Brittany ?
It could be a French Spaniel. They look like a long legged Springer with an un-docked tail. Does the dog point? French Spaniels are a pointing breed. Can you provide any information on this dog?
Re: Spaniel or Brittany ?
Doesn't look like a Britt. Ears are completely wrong as is the body type. Britts are cobby dogs with the height and length being near equal, a leggy dog for its size.

Not Brittany
Re: Spaniel or Brittany ?
Don't know if it can point Dakotazeb, It's just in I do know that it can howl though  and when on a lead it pulls like a train !!Dakotazeb wrote:It could be a French Spaniel. Re: Spaniel or Brittany ?
If it's not a French Spaniel then it has to be an undocked Springer or some type of Springer cross. I had Springers for many years and have had Brittanys for the past 20 years. I know for sure it is not a Brittany.

I thought Brittneys were spaniels
Spaniel or Brittany ?
In 1982 the "Spaniel" was officially dropped from the name.tobytx wrote:I thought Brittneys were spaniels

Did they officially suddenly drop from the pool ? Or just officially be registered on papers.....MGIII wrote:In 1982 the "Spaniel" was officially dropped from the name.tobytx wrote:I thought Brittneys were spaniels
Spaniel or Brittany ?
They dropped it because it has pointer/setter characteristics rather than spaniel characteristics which are flushers.polmaise wrote:Did they officially suddenly drop from the pool ? Re: Spaniel or Brittany ?
The body and coloring do look like a French spaniel. I've only hunted over one before. The only difference is that one had a lot more feathering on the tail like a setter

Could be a French Spaniel or a Springer with an uncropped tail. More info on the French Spaniel here:

And more info on the "do spaniels point" question (spoiler alert..the answer is yes, no and maybe) here: http://pointingdogblog.blogspot.ca/2014 ... point.html

Re: Spaniel or Brittany ?
Well I think it is a springer spaniel. It does not have a Brittany look at all I.M.O. ....the ears are the wrong shape, the body is the wrong shape, the colour is not typical of brits and the tail does not have the slightly plumey look an undocked Brittany tail usually has.
On the other hand I do see springers with that shape of body and ears and with that sort of tail and that sort of colour.
I have never seen a French Spaniel in the flesh but the dog does not much resemble the photographs of them I have seen. It's head shape differs I think. It does not look quite as "settery" in general as the French Spaniel does.
