Bird Dogs, Bluegrass, and Barbecue

Field Trials: It's the oldest sport in South Carolina. That should matter. For something to be the first organized sporting event in a state that reveres everything to do with its history and tradition, you would imagine that there would be tremendous interest in what our ancestors used to enjoy on weekends.

On crisp fall weekends in the Carolina's beginning in the 1870s, the countryside in many small communities was ringing with the yip yap of bird dogs waiting to be called for their brace.
