New gsp
Hello all. Just picked up a male gsp. He's 6 weeks old. I'm looking forward to the adventure ahead of us. As of right now I'm working on house training. I'v had him about 3 days and he's only had one accident inside. Other then that he goes to the door and cries when he needs to go outside. I'm wanting to train him to shed hunt and retrieve dove and quail. I can't wait!!
Re: New gsp
about the same here, sounds like your having better luck potty training though. Our female is 7 weeks, we want her to hunt sheds and some birds, we do dove hunt but she can't retreive them if I can't hit them.

Welcome to the forum Powerman. Congrats on your new pup and enjoy the experience. I've had 2 GSPs and they are a wonderful dog.

Thank you!
Right now about the only problem I'm having is him chewing on everything Including me. He never stops. I even have him TONS of chew toys also, and he still won't stop.

Re: New gsp
Much easier to teach a couple things early.
I allow mouthing but not biting down. I start teaching "easy" as they mouth me. If they bite down I instantly retaliate like their mother would. One quick retaliation and hesitate a moment. If they calm down I love them up.
The second thing is no aggressive climbing on you and jumping up on you. A 10 pound baby this is cute. A 70 pounder jumping on everyone for attention not so much. Remember they are wanting some love, this is a good thing. So you want to be really gentle with this problem. If they are climbing on you I gently put them down on their side or back then love on them. You want them to come for attention. You are only trying to teach them to be calm when getting it.
