Re: stapler?
Do a search on YouTube and there are some videos on the use of a skin stapler. If you buy a stapler make sure you also get the staple remover.
Re: stapler?
and make sure you THOROUGHLY clean the wound. If you seal in infection, sepsis is possible.

Thanks!

Re: stapler?
Easy there, not nice to doubt the veracity of others. Before the advent of skin stalpers, I had a dog rip his lower abdominal open, I wrapped his muzzle closed with a horse rein, put a knee on his neck, and sewed him up with sutures. He lived. Since I have carried a stapler, believing it is easier to staple than sew, as I am a poor substitute for a seamstress.reba wrote:Thanks!

I have seen hog dogs that looked like they were carrying 100 staples, still hunting.
I now also carry a blood clogging pack (available on Amazon), that is supposed to staunch the blood while you get to a doctor/vet. It is sold for humans, used by medics and EMT' s.

Male GSP for sale
We have an exceptional young ( 18 mos. old ) male for sale. This young dog is capable of winning in competition or a true companion for the hunter. He has won 2nd place in three different venues. His daddy is NASTRA 2015 Regional Ch. for Southern Ca. This pup won his 2nd places before he was 1 yr. old. He points, retrieves, whoa broke, ecollar and beeper conditioned, loads up on command. This pure black guy is beautiful to look at with great conformation. Loves people and other dogs. Will make a great stud dog. Asking $1200.00, He is worth much more.

Re: stapler?
OK, maybe I'm to much of a neat freak.
So no need to shave before using the staples? The dog not me;-)
I'll get one and hope I never have to use it.
Thanks

Re: stapler?
They are only used in a HUGE accident.... big blood loss happening. It is a temporary solution until you can get to the vet. (Shaving is the least of your worries. ) I hope you never have to use it either.

That is why I have gone to the blood clot packs. Staunch the blood loss while I am getting to the doctor/vet.Sharon wrote:They are only used in a HUGE accident.... big blood loss happening. Re: stapler?
I think that is a much safer approach than the stapler. Going to think on changing. Thanks.
Re: stapler?
I'm not a vet and never played one on TV, but I admit to having played one for minor repairs on my own dogs now and again...IME the stapler works great for minor skin tears and wounds, like 3-corner tears from barbed wire, or maybe after a dog tussles with a woodchuck. Clean as well as I can, close the wound, apply 3X antibiotic, and good to go. *But* watch over the next couple days for signs of infection, and don't try to fix things like compound fractures, disembowelments, and wounds that go through the muscle and expose bone. Use some common sense and don't try to be Dr. Pol. Infection and serious injuries need to be taken care of by a real vet.
Re: stapler?
Super glue is very affective on certain wounds , I've even used it on myself a couple of times
