Distracted in the field

Post by uplandviz » Sun Oct 04, 2015 4:06 pm

Today was the first time I ran my dog actually hunting. Up until this point, it was planted birds 1 or 2 at a time and in a controlled setting. We were off to a great start. He was hard charging and making up ground fast. After he retrieved the first shot bird, I put it in my vest. This si the first time i carried the game with me as we moved on (normally had a gator or atv around). Well the rest of the hunt he seemed to keep circling back to my back because of the bird in my vest. He would make big quartering moves but if he came up empty- instead of pushing out, he came back and smelled my back!

Has anyone dealt with this before? Thanks- any help would be much appreciated.

He is a Vizsla- just turned 1.

Start carrying it on you in training as well... He'll learn to ignore it, its just his first time. Nothing to worry about.

Not a big deal, ignore the smelling the gamebag behavior. Otherwise the pup is finding birds and running good, checking in and hunting for you. Sounds good to me. Good luck hunting and keep the pup into birds.
