I will use them when there are a lot of sand burrs or we are going to be hunting hard for several day in a row.

I prefer Tuf-Foot. I usually treat their feet every other week until 3 weeks before the season, then I up it to 3 times a week for 3 weeks, and once a week through the season (or as needed). But the terrain I'm on is mostly sandy or swampy ground. I also frequently check their feet for sand burs, dirt/snow clumps, etc.

When hunting multiple days in SD or ND I boot them with 1000 cordura from dogboyties.com.
