Pointing Lab Training Videos

Post by metz » Fri Nov 13, 2015 3:01 pm

9 week old BLM. Sire and Dam both point, not sure if this pup will or not but sure hope he does.

I hunt ducks, geese, pheasant and quail.

I've read: "Training the Pointing Labrador"

I would like to see some training in action and would like to hear your opinion on which videos/training methods are great.

Methods that will take me from start to finish would be best but if I have to take a little from hear and there I can do that too.

Thanks!

If it actually has pointing instinct, which many pointing lab's don't, any pointing video will do. I'd probably buy Perfect Start and Perfect Finish then combine that with a good retriever dvd, Gun Dawg is a basic one that you'd do well with. If you get the entire series, nothing beats Evan Graham for retrievers.

Is it legal to sell pups that may not point as Pointing Labs ? Are the pups sold on the basis of.... the sire and dam points so maybe the pups will too ?

Isn't this the basis that Pointers, E Setters, GSP's, etc... are sold on?

It is the same basis but with a lot less "maybe" involved.

Some labs have pointed for many years but it has been in more recent times that some are selecting for the trait and they are progressing with more style as time goes on. And a higher percentage of pups that are pointing.

Of course it is legal. No one is watching! More like the Kennel name has "pointing Labradors," or such, in it so the puppies must point!
