Garmin Astro displaying "treed"

Post by Mumpy » Thu Nov 19, 2015 7:44 am

Does anyone know how to get my Garmin Astro to display "Point" instead of Treed?

Very much appreciated

Yes
Follow the directions.....either in the instruction manual or the unit's prompts.

You can identify the dog type so that
the appropriate dog status symbols
appear.
1. From the main menu, press DOG >
ENTER.
2. Press MENU.
3. Select Change Dog Type.
4. Select a type

I'll leave this here for anyone else that needs the information in the future.

:/

Mine does the same thing occasionally. I've always had it set to pointing dog.

For those needing an instruction manual hard copy, from whatever reason, I believe the option is available to obtain one from Garmin.

They do that occasionally and if you just let them be, correct themselves. Doesn't really matter whether it says Point, Treed, or Poop; just follow the arrow.

"TREED" means your dog is on point only wiggling around, IF it is a pointing dog.

If you are hunting coons or cats with hounds then you most likely will never see the "ON POINT"

It's just that simple..........

That is not correct. If the dog moves on point it shows him running, not trees G. Yours may work like that but I've had three of them and none has worked like that.

My cousins does both. If the dogs head is at a angle that he could be treeing something it'll do it. Or if it points a bird in a tree but a normal point like pheasant hunting it will say point

I don't believe the astro can reliably differentiate between tree, point, and sit. I've found birds and dumps at the end of all three alerts. I don't really care. When my dog is stopped, I'm making haste to get to him.

An Astro doesn't do that. Hold the receiver and have someone walk 60' away with the Astro and hold it straight out. Now have hi raise his arm up an angle and look at the receiver. It will read the same.

Those with other opinions on how the Astro identifies point or treed must not have read the above. It is correct.

I have my dog type set as pointing dog but it still says treed at times. I'm not sure why it does, but I know I've set it correctly. It may say treed if the dog moves very little within a certain radius? Not sure.

Mine does the same thing. In fact I just had it go from running pointers "on" to "off" on its own. I'm going to replace the batteries, but I know it has done this with new batteries as well. My other 320 has not had this issue, this new one has done this since day one.
