I just hope this doesn't lead to GSP's becoming the new "status" breed among yuppies. It could lead to lots of them in rescues when the first owners find out about their energy level and exercise needs.

It is a double edge sword awesome that the dog got the best in show but bummer for rescues starting in about 9 months when people find out that GSPs require real training much like any pup but they are a hunting working breed

Val has handled for me at several events and always does a great job. I am so happy to see her win. CJ is a great dog and they make a great team. I wouldn't worry about GSP'S getting any more popular, they are already a dime in a dozen so its nice to see one shine.

We love to watch the 'Sporting Dogs' and were especially happy to see a Gun Dog win Top Dog, although I doubt that dog will hunt! Most Confirmation dogs have few field blood lines, although sometimes a rare exception creeps from Field to Confirmation or the other way around.

Did any of you see the black lab, if those confirmation labs get in fatter they are going to half to carry them in and out of the arena. What are the breeder and AKC doing to that breed, that dog was just to darn fat to be healthy...I do not get it!

Nice to see a real dog win!! Over half those dogs in the Sporting dog class looked like lap dogs. Of coarse the Brittany should have placed higher. The Brittany did look like a hunter also. Am I partial ?

This is the same story we hear every year from the hunting crowd and even more so when a sporting dog wins. I remember just a few years ago when the GSP won and you would think it was the end of the breed, but ............. In actuality practically all of the sporting breeds still have their hunting instinct but most do not hunt as far or as fast as the trial bred dogs do. But that doesn't mean they don't or won't hunt or that the world will be over run with the winning breed. In the first place there is only a small percent of the people in this country that even know what or where Westminster is or what it is about. And there are only a small percent of the people who do know that have purebred dogs or would pay to buy one.

We often hear that they all look like lap dogs and you are probably right on many, at least for the last few months, since it takes a lot of time and work if you are to get a nice looking coat on them and not having to worry about healing injuries or bad looking scars that aren't completely healed and covered. It is some what normal to try and get the bench title before spending a lot of time or money doing the field work. This particular dog's mother had a senior hunt title put on her by one of our members who is a big time trainer and breeder that both shows and trials plus every other title you can put on a dog.

Remember, if you like the breed of dog you have and want to keep that breed, confirmation shows are just as important as any other show such as trials, and other performance contests.

This dog is a couple generations back in both Carly and CJ. I guess you could call that related.
