New to me 7yo GSP

Post by bowfisher89 » Sat Feb 20, 2016 9:45 am

To start it all off I was online and found an ad for a free GSP. I contacted the guy and he told me she was 7yo and that he was getting down too much in his back to hunt with her. So I took her off his hands. I figured with a free dog, something had to be wrong. So the other day I took her out on a game preserve to shoot some pheasants and see how this free dog would do. Let me tell you she did great, she had not been hunted in almost 2 years due to the gentleman's health. It took her a few minutes but you could tell it all came back when she winded the first bird. I ran her with my brother's setter and they worked very well together. She likes to work a little closer than I like, but thats ok. As the day went on she started to range out a little bit more. She pointed 3 birds on her own and back on the other 7 that we shot. I am very pleased with this free dog that I honestly thought wouldn't be worth a darn.

Be sure to let the previous owner know you and the dog are getting along well, and that you're both happy.

That is awesome. My setter was in the same situation and I couldn't be happier. Congratulations on your new pup. Enjoy!

That's great! A win-win for all. Should reach out to her previous owner-He'd be thrilled and I'm sure he would probably feel good about his decision
