I bought a trap from Lions Country and have a barn that I placed the trap in 2 weeks ago. I started with using sweet feed as the food for the center of the trap and seen zero activity. I changed last week to a standard tweety bird bag mix and I am still not seeing any activity. I know the pigeons are in there as I can see them when I go to check the trap. I have the trap placed on a piece of plywood about 7 ft off of the ground with plenty of space for the birds to land. The placement is almost in the center of the barn away from the walls.

I am looking for help. Any recommendations on a different food to attract them? Get it up higher? I am not a fan on putting it on the ground due to several chickens walking around and the food would be gone before a pigeon could even get a chance. Any help???????? :roll:

Pigeons are basically ground feeders.

If the pigeons are in the barn ,then a torch a ladder and a kids fishing net would be best . After dark.

Are you putting bait only in the trap? If so, scatter bait all around the trap as well as inside. Wire the bobs up for a few days so they get used to going in and out. When you do catch one, give it some water and leave it in the trap. A pigeon in the trap gives others confidence to enter.

I often forget about the translation .

This is the most fun way to do it. But if you want trap:

I like to use scratch grain as a bait.

Just caught 8 pigeons the night before last.

I too tried a trap at a farm but there's just so much hay feed that I couldn't entice them. I think it's easier on city building tops to trap.

At a farm down the road, the barn the birds roost in has a lower gable roof the birds have to fly down under to leave the barn so it's ideal. One guy uses a long aluminum tickle stick to oust them from the nests one at a time. As they try to fly out, they're blinded by the headlamps of two fellows with landing nets. They can't see into the lights and flutter like giant hummingbirds as they pass so it's a breeze to reach up and net them.

Anyway, that's how I do it.

Not sure what kind kind of trap you have but on mine I leave the doors open for about a week and put chicken scratch in the middle of the cage and just inside the doors and some outside the doors. Once I see that they are going in and out of the cage for a few days and always keep the trap supplied with food while they are coming and going in the trap. Once they are comfortable going in the trap I shut the doors while keeping it supplied with food in the same places with a little more on the inside and less on the outside.

I'd be interested in hearing about how to be effective trapping them on a farm.

I tried for weeks with all sorts of different feed and trap placement to no avail. I got one immature poult to go into it when it was in a barn loft but it just seemed that there was too much feed for them to care bout any of my offerings.

Anyone have some advice for me?
