Hi - we have a 3 1/2 year old female GSP and she is showing some symptoms of something called Wobbler syndrome. This has all come on in the last 6 days. The veterinarian is unsure what is wrong with her, she has had x-rays and the initial look shows nothing abnormal though they are being sent away for further analysis and we will get the results back in a couple of days. The vet also mentioned possibly menangitis, though so far she doesn't have a fever. Right now she needs to be confined to her kennel 24/7 except for when she needs to go outside to the bathroom.
Wobbler's syndrome: http://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/neu ... r_syndrome
If anyone has any information, thoughts, opinions or experience with these symptoms, I would really appreciate hearing them.
Thanks,
Curtis.
GSP health concerns - Wobbler syndrome??
Re: GSP health concerns - Wobbler syndrome??
Just a thought, have you had her checked for Lyme disease?
Re: GSP health concerns - Wobbler syndrome??
Did they do a full blood workup?

No experience with wobbler syndrome, but one of our setters had something happen that resulted in pressure on her spinal cord. She had difficulty walking, seemed to have some pain, and failed a couple of simple neuro tests by the vet. Her xrays showed *maybe* the suspicious area. We have no idea what occurred that resulted in the problem.
The vet sent her home with corticosteroids for inflammation, and something like deramaxx for pain. She was confined to her crate, but it was too difficult to get her out of it, so we kept her in the kitchen on a dog bed. Putting rugs down helped her to cross the slick floor, and we had to carry her down the steps outdoors. We used a sling to help support her hind end.
Over a couple of weeks she improved a lot, and eventually it was like nothing had ever happened. IIRC it took about a month for her to appear normal again, although little by little we were able to drop the support systems.
Hopefully your dog has something similar and easier to deal with. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your girl.
