Toy Question

Hello all! I will be getting a French Brittany pup come August 9th and I was wondering what toys do you get for you dogs? I'm asking because I know it's recommended to get toys that don't have a squeaker and it seems like any softer toy has one. So what toys do y'all use and where do you get them from? Thanks!

Never bought a toy for a pup as they can have fun with a piece of rope, a stick, or a list of other things such as a box.

I like the ropes, Kong toys, and the "jolly ball." I also didn't want squeakers for the hard mouth reasons, but more importantly, they are extremely annoying. Also, the local fleet store sells some stuffed shin bones that have lasted a year with my dogs. They go through raw hides in minutes then get sick from them, so I avoid those.

When we (my wife and I) got our first pup as a couple people gave us a bunch of toys and lots had squeakers. I cut them open, removed the squeakers, and then sewed them back up.

Kongs are good.

I kind of get a kick out of a dog walking around with a rediculous looking toy in it's mouth. Before you give him the toy take a knitting needle and puncture the squeaker to silence it. I agree with most others to never give a dog a toy that squeaks especially if the breed has a tendency to hard mouth.

Same here. That's a good idea about puncturing the squeaker I had never though to do that. Thank you!

Those "formative years" are highly important and dilagent training pays high dividends. :D :D :)

Kong Toys are safe and hold up for a long while. Stay away from Nylabones as they break teeth  ....except the new ones they have out that are soft enough you can make an impression with your finger nail, they seem to be ok and hold up fairly well.

Many say give them Antlers and hoofs, I have tried these but found out the hard way that they too break teeth  , which then have to be pulled out!

I also stay away from ropes of cords as dogs will undue the threads and eat those. Can cause a blockage, which can be life threating.

We basically have Hard Rubber Toys....they last for years and the dogs like them.....

Ahh gotcha. I guessed Maryland based on the geese. Seems like you have quite the pup there!

You guessed based on the presence of Canada geese?

Maryland, specifically Eastern Shore, has really good geese. In fact, one of the best goose callers in the world lives there.

Probably. I don't know. I just know that I see them all over Minnesota. In fact there's 4 dozen that crap all over my shoreline. And there's even more in Manitoba, CA. By the thousands.... Not trying to pick a fight, just wondered how you drew the conclusion.

Kong chew toy and peanut butter. Elk antler that is big enough not to swallow whole.
