I have never heard bottom end as it relates to dogs or horses it has always been bottom. Bottom is endurance.

Will keep after it no matter what. Think today that is how people use it

Think it came from an age where training techniques were really harsh and it meant that a dog could handle really harsh training techniques and had the guts to keep hunting no matter what.

Yes i think it started as bottom

Right. I think "bottom end" is being mistakenly used because many people are familiar with the term in relation to engines. Anyway, in thoroughbreds, bottom is not only endurance but ability to display power late after a long hard run.

Bottom...ie, power and endurance to the end, never wanting to quit. A very important trait IMO.

I first heard "Bottom" being used in context with boxers in the ring. It meant a boxer could take punishment as well as dish it out and that he had stamina. Where dogs are concerned I think of it as meaning a dog has stamina and a strong desire to keep going in tough conditions.

Never heard of "bottom end ?"

I've never herd the expression "bottom end" applied to dogs. "Bottom" is as explained above. Endurance and the will to keep going when the going gets tough.
