Need kennel floor advise
Okay, I have almost finished my "kennel". The inside is a 6X6 in my spare room downstairs, with a doggy door leading out to a 12x6 run. This kennel is only for the day time, Maggie has run of the house in the evening and sleeps with me at night.
Okay to the question, what type flooring do you use for the outside run, I don't think grass will survive with her out on it and me trying to shovel away waste, I guess I could pour concrete........what do each of you use?

I have concrete on the inside and gravel on the outside
I just don't want my big dogs on the concrete all the time
I have the big heavy rubber horse matts on the inside too
our kennel is still in the making one of these years I will have it finshed LOL.
The one thing I don't like about the gravel is that they bring it in with them

pavers
I've used the concrete pavers for 20 years years- a pretty good solution!
I put down a base of limestone "road rock" to even things up, sprinkle some lime on top, tamp well, and lay the pavers- 16"X8"X1.5".
I moved once during the 20 years- I just backed a trailer up, pulled 'em up, and moved the whole kennel set-up!

I like concrete. Easy to clean and sanitary. Your dog isn't on it continually so no foot problems. I had pea gravel once and didn't like it. After a while the urine smell got bad. You could clean the top but the urine soaked through to the bottom. Never again.
LIFE WITHOUT BIRD DOGS AND FLY RODS REALLY ISN'T LIFE AT ALL.
Concrete is the only way to go. I had the same problem you couldn't get rid of the smell with other stuff.

I have concrete as well, but I will say that if you can get crushed rock and lime, also called CA-6, or CA-8, it is whiterock with crushed lime, it will pack like concrete just put some edging material down to keep it in place, if you hose it down and tamp it a few times it will set up like concrete. Plus the lime eats the smell of the urine. Horse mats on the inside.

Pavers
I use the 12x12 concrete pavers from home depot with a crushed gravel base. You have to make sure your base is level/sloped the way you want it before you lay the pavers. I plan on running a border around them next. I like it better than concrete because it isn't permenant and is much better that pea gravel that was a pain for me to clean. If I had the money and didn't plan on moving or moving the kennel I would go with concrete with a good drainage system. I am very satisfied with the pavers and they look like concrete to most people that see it.

The single ground mulch I was thinking of is from a lumber yard. It does not contain chemicals. The lumber yard gets theirs from the woods. They buy trees to make and produce lumber. The excess is turned into mulch.
Now, from a landscaper, No. Because that's when you get mulch with chemicals.
I was wanting mulch to put in the kennel.

Seems like the mulch wouldn't take to washing out very well.
